MOUNT PEDUM AND BOCCHETTA DI CAMPO

Do you want to experience the thrill of reaching the top of the mountain symbol of the wildest area of Italy?

A two-day trip will allow you to reach the intriguing summit of Mount Pedum (2115 m), in the beating heart of the ValGrande.

Starting from the neighboring Val Vigezzo the itinerary begins with a beautiful mule track up to the Alpe Scaredi from where we can enjoy a magnificent view of Monte Rosa. We then reach the ridge that acts as a watershed between the lake and the mountains and along ups and downs with exposed stretches we reach the bivouac Bocchetta di Campo. Here we can spend the night enjoying the lights of the milky way and the silence of the surrounding mountains. In front of the bivouac stands the majestic Pedum which can be reached the following day through an exposed path, never banal but very gratifying. From the top we have the feeling of being in the very heart of the ValGrande, surrounded by its nature wild and fascinating.

CIMA PEDUM E BOCCHETTA DI CAMPO

Vuoi vivere l’emozione di arrivare in cima alla montagna simbolo dell’area più selvaggia di Italia? Una gita di due giorni ti permetterà di raggiungere l’intrigante vetta del monte Pedum (2115 m), nel cuore pulsante della Val Grande.

Partendo dalla confinante Val Vigezzo, l’itinerario inizia con una bella mulattiera fino all’Alpe Scaredi da dove si può godere di una magnifica vista sul Monte Rosa. Si giunge poi sulla dorsale che fa da spartiacque tra lago e monti e lungo saliscendi a tratti esposti, si giunge al bivacco Bocchetta di Campo. Qui si pernotta godendo delle luci della via lattea e del silenzio dei monti circostanti. Di fronte al bivacco si staglia il maestoso Pedum, che si raggiunge il giorno seguente attraverso un sentiero esposto, mai banale ma molto remunerativo. Dalla cima si ha la netta sensazione di essere nel vero cuore della ValGrande, circondati a 360 gradi dalla sua natura selvaggia e affascinante.

Round trip, it is a classic autumn tour without particular difficulties, which allows you to enjoy the fiery colors of beech and chestnut trees typical of the Val Grande.

Starting from Cicogna, the only inhabited village in the valley, we take a beautiful path in the woods, which, passing by some isolated mountain pastures, leads to the Prà Alp and to the house of the Alpino with its spectacular and panoramic position. We then continue to the Leciuri Alp from which it is possible to catch a glimpse of the suggestive Pogallo mountain pasture where we arrive with another hour of walk. Return to Cicogna for a comfortable mule track overlooking the stream.

Partendo da Cicogna, unico borgo abitato della valle, si imbocca un bel sentiero nel bosco, che passando da alcuni isolati alpeggi, porta all’alpe Prà e alla casa dell’Alpino con la sua spettacolare e panoramica posizione. Si prosegue poi per l’alpe Leciuri dalla quale è possibile intravedere il suggestivo alpeggio di Pogallo, presso il quale si arriva con un’ altra oretta di cammino. Rientro a Cicogna per una comoda mulattiera a picco sul torrente.

The lakes of Codelago, Streghe and Pianboglio act as a the mirror during an easy trip, which allows you to get to know the colors and nature of one of the most suggestive valleys of Ossola. It is a round ride on easy paths between larches, typical alpine pastures and grazing animals in freedom. Before returning there is the possibility to stop at the small village of Crampiolo at the Baita hut, for tasting typical local dishes accompanied by a good glass of wine.

Among the Ossola valleys Val Formazza is considered the one with the highest number of lakes, most of which are closed by dams and used for the production of electricity. E’ un giro ad anello su sentieri agevoli tra larici , tipici alpeggi e animali da pascolo in libertà. Prima di rientrare c’è la possibilità di fare una sosta al piccolo villaggio di Crampiolo, dove si possono gustare piatti tipici locali accompagnati da un buon bicchiere di vino, presso la Baita Crampiolo.

Attraverso questo itinerario si può invece ammirare il lago Kastel, il lago Toggia e i laghi del Boden (2348 m), specchi d’acqua naturali di eccezionale bellezza. FROM RIALE TO LAKE VANNINO: THE PASS OF THE NEFELGIÙ

Beautiful excursion that allows you to visit landscapes reminiscent of a miniature Canada immersed among larch woods and rocks that fall sheer on enchanted lakes. The route develops between 1700 m and 2500 m of the Nefelgiù pass, from where you can admire the fascinating valley below and some of the most characteristic peaks of the Val Formazza. Starting from the small village of Riale, crossing the pass, we reach lake Vannino: here an excellent welcome and a special snack will be guaranteed at the Margaroli refuge. The descent takes place along the characteristic Vannino valley until reaching the chairlift that leads to the village of Valdo.

DA RIALE AL LAGO VANNINO: IL PASSO DEL NEFELGIÙ

Bellissima escursione che permette di visitare paesaggi che ricordano un Canada in miniatura immersi tra boschi di larici e rocce che cadono a picco su laghetti incantati. Il percorso si sviluppa tra i 1700m e i 2500 m del passo del Nefelgiù, da dove si può ammirare l’affascinante valle sottostante e alcune tra le cime più caratteristiche della Val Formazza. Partendo dal piccolo borgo di Riale, attraversando il passo, si giunge al lago Vannino: qui un’ottima accoglienza e una merenda speciale saranno garantite presso il rifugio Margaroli. La discesa avviene lungo il caratteristico vallone del Vannino fino a raggiungere la seggiovia che porta al paesino di Valdo.

THE WALSER CHARM: ANTILLONE & SALECCHIO SUPERIORE

For those looking for a trip rich in history, colors and unique landscape corners, the hike from Antillone (808 m) to Salecchio (1509 m) can offer true satisfaction! The itinerary develops between beech and larch woods, along the ancient mule track that has seen, for over seven centuries, the passage and efforts of the Walser, typical populations of Val Formazza and Valais. Wonderful examples of their architecture are appreciable along the entire route, which never ceases to amaze. Arrived in Salecchio Superiore there is the kind welcome of the Zumgora Refuge, where you can try typical local tastes. From here the descent is faster and quickly leads to Passo, the arrival point.

If you have an extra day available to enjoy these magnificent places, you can stay overnight at the refuge and complete the route the following day with a ring ride that, passing through enchanting alpine lakes, arrives at the Margaroli refuge and then on to Valdo.

IL FASCINO WALSER: ANTILLONE E SALECCHIO SUPERIORE

Per chi cerca una gita ricca di storia, colori e angoli paesaggistici unici, l’escursione da Antillone (808 m) a Salecchio (1509 m) può regalare vere soddisfazioni! L’itinerario si sviluppa tra boschi di faggi e larici, lungo l’antica mulattiera che ha visto, per oltre sette secoli, il passaggio e le fatiche dei Walser, popolazioni tipiche di Val Formazza e Vallese. Mirabili esempi della loro architettura sono apprezzabili lungo tutto il percorso, che non smette mai di stupire. Arrivati a Salecchio Superiore non manca la gentile accoglienza del Rifugio Zumgora, presso il quale si possono provare gusti tipici locali. Da qui la discesa è più rapida e porta velocemente alla località di Passo, punto di arrivo.

FROM THE LAKE OF MERGOZZO TO THE VILLAGE OF MONTORFANO

The characteristic village of Mergozzo overlooking the waters of the cleanest lake in Italy, the Cadorna line and military fortifications, the quarries of precious green granite, the suggestive panoramic views of Lake Maggiore and the mountains that surround it ... it is what you can enjoy during this loop itinerary suitable for everyone. It starts from the small town of Mergozzo and proceeds initially along the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Path) overlooking the lake, to then become a beautiful mule track that leads to the plateau on top of Montorfano. From here the panorama ranges from the shores of Lake Maggiore to the Ossola valleys. The itinerary ends along another paved mule track until returning to Mergozzo, where you can enjoy an excellent snack by the lake with typical local products at the Ca 'Del Mosto bar-restaurant.

DAL LAGO DI MERGOZZO AL BORGO DI MONTORFANO

Il caratteristico borgo di Mergozzo affacciato sulle acque del lago più pulito di Italia, la linea Cadorna e le fortificazioni militari, le cave di pregiato granito verde, i suggestivi scorci panoramici sul lago Maggiore e i monti che lo circondano... E’ quello che si può gustare durante questo itinerario ad anello adatto a tutti, che parte dal piccolo abitato di Mergozzo e procede inizialmente lungo il Sentiero Azzurro a picco sul lago, per poi diventare una bella mulattiera che conduce al pianoro in cima al Montorfano. Da qui il panorama spazia dalle sponde del Lago Maggiore alle valli dell’Ossola. L’itinerario si chiude percorrendo un’ altra mulattiera di selciato fino a ritornare a Mergozzo, dove sarà possibile godere di un’ottima merenda in riva al lago con prodotti tipici locali presso il bar-ristorante Ca’ Del Mosto.

BETWEEN HORRIDS AND MARMITES OF THE GIANTS WITH THE WITCHES OF CROVEO

A spectacular and fascinating tour that will take you to one of the most suggestive and easily accessible natural canyons in our country. Left by the erosion of streams fed in the past by glaciers, the Orridi di Uriezzo offer the opportunity to immerse themselves in a unique and enchanting environment, which unravels between tortuous tunnels and large natural cavities. The route does not present great difficulties and alternates stone steps with iron steps placed in the most difficult points. This makes it suitable for everyone, even for families with children. Once out of the canyon it is possible to visit the Marmitte dei Giganti di Maiesso, impressive cavities dug over time in the rock of the stream. Not far away are also the Marmitte del Diavolo, which can be visited by a characteristic arched stone bridge. A visit to the small village of Croveo, called the Country of the Witches, cannot be missed, since it was the scene of processes that between the 16th and 17th centuries brought numerous women considered witches to the stake. Finally, at the Cistella restaurant it is possible to conclude the trip with excellent typical dishes: ossolan gnocchi, risotto in the form of parmesan, salami and local cheeses ... all accompanied by a good wine.

TRA ORRIDI E MARMITTE DEI GIGANTI CON LE STREGHE DI CROVEO

Uno spettacolare ed affascinante tour che vi porterà in uno dei canyon naturali più suggestivi e facilmente accessibili del nostro Paese. Lasciati dall’erosione di torrenti alimentati in passato dai ghiacciai, gli Orridi di Uriezzo offrono la possibilità di immergersi in un ambiente unico e incantevole, che si districa tra tortuosi cunicoli e grandi cavità naturali. Il percorso non presenta grandi difficoltà e alterna gradoni in pietra a scalinate di ferro poste nei punti più difficoltosi. Questo lo rende adatto a tutti, anche a famiglie con bambini. Usciti dal canyon è possibile far visita alle Marmitte dei Giganti di Maiesso, impressionanti cavità scavate nel tempo nella roccia del torrente. Poco distanti si trovano anche le Marmitte del Diavolo, visitabili da un caratteristico ponte in pietra ad arco. Non può mancare una visita al piccolo paesino di Croveo, denominato il Paese delle Streghe, poiché teatro di processi che tra il XVI e il XVII secolo portarono al rogo numerose donne considerate streghe. Presso il ristorante Cistella, infine, è possibile concludere al meglio la gita con degli ottimi piatti tipici: gnocchi all’ossolana, risotto in forma di parmigiano, salumi e formaggi locali...il tutto accompagnato da un buon vino.

it is one of the most fascinating and characteristic traverses of the Alpine arc and winds through an uncontaminated environment, between severe mountains and large alpine meadows. The route allows to immerse yourself in unique landscapes, where dense coniferous forests alternate with crystal clear lakes and typical Walser pastures.

The departure is from Alpe Ciamporino of San Domenico di Varzo, in the direction of Alpe Veglia. The following day we head towards the Valtendra pass, we reach steeply the Scatta d Orogna and from there we descend to Alpe Devero with a comfortable path. On the third day from Crampiolo, after skirting the East shore of the suggestive alpine lake of Codelago, we climb to Alpe Forno and to the next Scatta Minoia Pass. From here we descend towards lake Vannino, where we are greeted by the Margaroli refuge. The last day includes a peaceful return to the small village of Riale, passing through the Nefelgiù Pass.

All overnight stays take place in characteristic refuges/inns that will not fail to offer typical local products and excellent wines.

The trek is particularly suitable for groups of friends who want to spend four days on one of the most exciting crossings in the Alps.

DI VALLE IN VALLE:

TRAVERSATA VEGLIA – DEVERO – FORMAZZA

è una delle più affascinanti e caratteristiche traversate dell’arco alpino e si snoda in un ambiente ancora incontaminato, tra severe montagne e ampie praterie alpine. Il percorso permette di immergersi in paesaggi unici, dove fitti boschi di conifere si alternano a laghi cristallini e tipici alpeggi Walser.

La partenza è prevista dall’Alpe Ciamporino di San Domenico di Varzo, in direzione Alpe Veglia. Il giorno seguente ci si dirige verso il passo della Valtendra, si raggiunge ripidamente la Scatta d’Orogna e da lì si scende all’Alpe Devero con un comodo sentiero. Il terzo giorno da Crampiolo, dopo aver costeggiato la sponda est del suggestivo lago alpino di Codelago, si sale all’Alpe Forno e al successivo passo della Scatta Minoia. Da qui si scende in direzione del lago Vannino, dove si viene accolti dal rifugio Margaroli. L’ultimo giorno prevede un tranquillo rientro al piccolo borgo di Riale, passando per il Passo del Nefelgiù.

Tutti i pernottamenti avvengono in caratteristici rifugi/locande che non mancheranno di proporre prodotti tipici locali e ottimi vini.

Il trekking si presta particolarmente adatto a gruppi di amici che desiderano trascorrere quattro giorni percorrendo una delle più emozionanti traversate delle Alpi.

In one of the most beautiful places in Ossola, in front of the majestic East face of Monte Rosa at an altitude of 3000 m at the Monte Moro pass, we find one of the most famous climbing routes in the area: the South-East ridge of the Joderhorn. After the ascent with the cable car, in about 40 minutes on foot, you reach the attack of the ridge: 3 hours spent on fantastic rock and immersed in the spectacular landscape of Monte Rosa. To end the day in style, there will be a stop at the legendary Oberto refuge on whose terrace we will uncork a bottle of their excellent cellar.

In uno dei posti più belli dell’Ossola, di fronte alla maestosa parete Est del Monte Rosa a quota 3000 m presso il passo del Monte Moro, troviamo una delle vie di arrampicata più famose della zona: la cresta Sud-Est dello Joderhorn. Dopo la risalita con la funivia, in circa 40 minuti a piedi, si giunge all’attacco della cresta: 3 ore trascorse su roccia fantastica e immersi nello spettacolare paesaggio del Monte Rosa. Per concludere in bellezza la giornata non mancherà una sosta presso il mitico rifugio Oberto sul cui terrazzo stapperemo una bottiglia della loro ottima cantina.

Thanks to the Hohsaas cableway you will only walk 1000 meters in altitude to reach the summit, tied in rope and with crampons on your feet.

Grazie alla funivia Hohsaas si camminerà solo 1000 metri di dislivello per raggiungerne la cima, legati in cordata e con ramponi ai piedi.

The climb to the legendary Granpa, 4061 meters, cannot be missed.

Served  excellently by the Tiziana's Chabod refuge, it is a climb for climbers who already have some long peaks and a bit of altitude in their legs. The mountaineering finale, not be underestimated, makes it a complete high altitude climb.

Non può mancare la salita al mitico Granpa, 4061 metri.

Servito ottimamente dal rifugio Chabod dell'amica Tiziana, è una salita per alpinisti che hanno già nelle gambe qualche lunga cima e un po' di quota. Il finale alpinistico, da non sottovalutare, la rende una salita d'alta quota completa.
